Adobe Grill
T
his second-story Mexican restaurant offers a huge heated
outdoor patio with views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and of
the Plaza. The standout for us here was the guacamole made the old-
fashioned way, at the table. Our waiter cut open a perfectly fresh and
firm avocado with his knife, scooped the contents into a bowl, added
onions, tomatoes, corn, salsa, and... well, if you choose to eat here on
an evening, you
must
order guacamole for your table. It is as good as
you’ve ever had, and as good as this dish ever gets. Other highlights are
the excellent margaritas and the freshly made corn chips.
Beyond La Quinta
T
here is plenty to do at night in addition to eating in one of La
Quinta Resort’s seven restaurants, including gambling and shows
at half a dozen nearby casinos including Agua Caliente in Rancho
Mirage and Morongo in Cabazon. In the daytime, the Waldorf Astoria
Driving Experience puts you behind the wheel of some exotic vehicles,
such as a Ferrari 458 Italia, a McLaren MP4-12C or a Porsche GT3.
Visiting downtown Palm Springs and its early movie colony homes can
be fun, too.
For rate information at La Quinta Resort & Club, 49499 Eisenhower
Drive, La Quinta, CA 92253 you should call either (760) 564-4111 or
(855) 899-3031.
It’s called “The Mountain Course” because the foothills of the
Santa Rosa Mountains march perilously close to its fairways.
It is an early (and diabolical) design of golf-course architect
Pete Dye. The practice facility is extensive and filled with many
“targets,” as are most of Pete Dye’s courses.
