Lindekens has lived in Santa Barbara County for the past
18 years with his wife, Lynn, a longtime native of the Santa
Ynez Valley.
As a retired commercial airline pilot, he traveled often; during
one of his trips from L.A. to London, a fellow pilot – knowing
Lindekens’ interest in photography – asked him what he planned
to do once he retired. “Surf, take up golf,” he replied, not really
having a retirement plan. His fellow pilot opined that such
pursuits would not be enough, that he’d get bored and suggested
instead that he take up photography, focusing on wild animals.
Lindekens thought about it and decided that wasn’t a bad idea.
“I went out, and we did some birds up in the North Atlantic,” he
recalls. “I thought that was pretty cool and before I knew it, I’d
spent thirty thousand dollars on cameras. I was hooked.”
