J
enni Kayne is a fashion designer with a naturalistic
edge. Influenced by organic textures and architectural
composition, her successful fashion line has evolved
into accessories, shoes, a kids line, and home decor that can
be found in Montecito’s upper village. She’s curator of the
blog Rip + Tan (named after her children, Ripley Jewel and
Tanner), giving insight to her in-home life and collaborative
friendships. Partnering with The Laundress, an eco-friendly line
of laundry and home cleaning products, and carrying all-natural
beauty merchandise online and in-store increases her appeal
as a lifestyle shop. The vegetarian designer even cooks for her
family using her home’s organic garden. Jenni shows it’s easy
being green. And stylish, too.
What are the differences/similarities in your Montecito client
versus others?
Our Montecito client is very laid-back and is really family-
oriented – she has great style and loves well-made pieces but is
not too trendy. We do great with our Italian cashmere sweaters
and our more dressed-up cr
ê
pe pieces in Montecito, because
they can live in a woman’s closet forever. Our customer loves
pieces that transition easily from day to night since she’s often
running between home, work, and family, so we try to offer her
timeless, high-quality pieces that can be worn easily together.
What is your favorite part about Montecito?
We come here on weekend getaways with my kids. I love
spending time in the village, visiting the [San Ysidro] Ranch
for dinner, or going to the beach. We keep it relaxed when we
visit – it’s so nice to spend time outdoors and really appreciate
the landscape.
