Megan Waldrep
’s literary journey, since moving to Carpinteria in
2013 with a children’s book under her belt,
has included freelance writing for several
local publications such as Montecito Journal,
Carpinteria magazine, DEEP magazine, and
her most recent role as creative director of
the Santa Barbara Sentinel. When not writing,
Megan can be found harnessing her chi and
giving thanks to live surrounded by the beauty of
the Central Coast.
Hattie Beresford
is a native of the Netherlands and received her
Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential
from University of California Santa Barbara. She
taught English and American history for the
Santa Barbara School District for many years
and retired from teaching in 2004. When she
is not immersed in some dusty tome, she can
be found on the tennis courts, hiking trails, or
out on a kayak marveling at the dolphins. She
and her husband, former Dos Pueblos volleyball
coach Mike Beresford, are avid campers and
travelers.
Chuck Graham
is a freelance writer and photographer living in
Carpinteria. When he’s not leading kayak
tours on Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands,
he’s freelancing for publications such as
Backpacker, Canoe & Kayak, Sea Kayaker, Trail
Runner, Living Bird, and Surfer’s Journal. He’s
also editor of DEEP magazine.
James Buckley
is the founder of Montecito Journal (weekly) and
has lived in Montecito for the past 30 years.
Jim wrote a regular real estate column for
nearly a decade before passing the baton
but continues to write local and travel-related
pieces for Montecito Journal. You are likely to
find him on any given (preferably cloudy) day
on one of Santa Barbara’s or Montecito’s fine
golf courses.
Kia McInerny
is an author and wine writer whose stories have
appeared in Singapore, Ireland, and the UK, as
well as the U.S. Kia’s international thriller Bond
Hunter, a fast-paced tale of intrigue, is available
on Amazon. Kia’s other novels include Max in
Filmland, a stylish tale of misadventure in 1970s
Euro-Hollywood. Kia’s short fiction has been
featured on public radio. When not touring wine
regions, Kia enjoys the Santa Barbara lifestyle
with her husband.
Rod Lathim
is a fifth-generation Santa Barbaran, and an award-
winning playwright, director, and producer.
He founded Access Theatre (1979-1996),
which toured nationally. His current project
is producing the Premiere of Sam Tyler, Peter
Seaman and Brent Sumner’s documentary
film West of the West: Tales From California’s
Channel Islands at the Arlington Theatre
scheduled for March 5 & 6, 2016. Rod is also
busy writing the third edition of his book The
Spirit of the Big Yellow House and will soon
begin a new book on the Lobero Theatre.
Eva Van Prooyen
, as a quick-witted freckle-faced teenager with a
quirky sense of humor, moved from Truckee to
the Santa Barbara area in 1989. Since then,
she has been managing editor of Montecito
Journal (weekly), became co-founder and co-
owner of the Santa Ynez Valley Journal, worked
for and received her master of arts degree
in clinical psychology, and now runs a busy
Montecito-based private practice as a licensed
marriage and family therapist. She continues
to write for various publications, enjoys a fast-
paced game of tennis when not chained to
her keyboard and has maintained her quick wit
and quirky sense of humor.
Anne M. Sewall
, daughter of Santa Barbara architect Jock M.
Sewall, AIA, grew up in Montecito prior to
attending Cate School and later Colby
College in Waterville, Maine. After graduating
from Colby, Anne moved to New York
City working in business development in
architecture and has resided in Manhattan’s
East Village for the last four years. While New
York has all the excitement, Anne’s favorite
place will always be Butterfly Beach, where she
spent many hours with her dog, preferably with
a Little Alex’s taco salad.
