The Langham Huntington:
1401 S. Oak Knoll Ave., (626) 568-3900,
.
Serving Pasadena for 101 years, the Huntington is a timeless classic of a hotel: 23 acres of lawns and gardens surrounding
a symmetrical red-roofed building, all framed against the San Gabriel Mountains. Inside, a formal-yet-comfortable
atmosphere evokes Pasadena’s traditional, gracious way of life, as does the warm staff. The décor of my 850-square-foot
“Huntington Suite” called to mind a hunt club; the parlor had a potted plant, dark wood tables, and a deep-blue couch and
chair with piping, while the bedroom had a matching chaise longue and a blissfully comfortable king bed.
I had access to the exclusive lounge that serves the hotel’s club levels. With a panoramic view from the eighth
floor, it offers five complimentary meal services daily, starting with a lavish full breakfast and continuing to cocktails
and hors d’oeuvres and on through late-night cookies. The hotel’s dining options include the acclaimed Royce Wood-
Fired Steakhouse and the bistro-style Terrace, as well as afternoon tea in the lobby lounge and convivial cocktails
and snacks in the Tap Room. The Chuan Spa’s treatments are inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and incorporate
advanced skin-care technology. Rates start at $299 (classic room) and $519 (Huntington Suite); phone for the rate of the
3,660-square-foot Tournament of Roses Suite.
